Applied Behavior Analysis Services
Consistent with The Arc's mission, the ABA Services department assists individuals to gain independence, and to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of the community. ABA Services supports individuals through research-based programming, and relies on data-based decision-making throughout the assessment and treatment processes. ABA Services are overseen by professionals who are certified through the Behavior Analysis Certification Board and licensed in the state of Missouri.
The Arc's ABA Services department relies on the science of behavior to support individuals of all ages, from infancy to adulthood. ABA Services provides clinic-based services, as well as programming in natural settings in the community, family homes, schools and residential placements.
ABA Services can effectively change behavior in various ways and interventions are always tailored to the needs of the individual served, to caregiver needs and to setting logistics. Programming is based on the functions of, or reasons for, each individual's behavior, and relies on factors that motivate each individual. The Arc's ABA Services team has experience addressing skill development in a variety of areas, commonly including communication, safety, self-care, social skills, and community integration. In addition, ABA Services often works with teams to reduce maladaptive behavior such as self-injury, physical aggression, or disruption.
Caregiver involvement is instrumental in the success of ABA programming, and ABA Services provides in-depth caregiver training using behavior skills training.
Cornerstone Psychology Services
The Cornerstone Clinic is a resource for every department at The Arc. Cornerstone provides therapy not only to Arc clients, but also clientele from the community.
A team of specialized clinicians assist individuals, families, couples or groups with varying types of therapy including psychotherapy, speech and occupational therapy. In line with the overall mission of the organization, Cornerstone believes in developing personalized care to assess and support each person's unique needs. When a client is referred to Cornerstone, the first step is an evaluation with a clinician to understand any areas of concern and to lay the foundation of a relationship built on trust.
Cornerstone's team is specially trained Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition, which is the gold standard for diagnosing individuals with autism. This training has added to the expertise of our staff and expanded our resources to become an even bigger support system to those in our community with disabilities.
Mercy Autism Clinic
The Arc has partnered with Mercy and Missouri State to open an autism diagnostic clinic in July 2015.
The clinic will operate two days a month—on the 2nd and 3rd Mondays.
This diagnostic session will include occupational therapy evaluation, speech therapy evaluation and the ados 2 testing.
Early intervention is important because the earlier a child receives help, the more effective the treatment—especially for children with more severe autism. The ultimate goal is to get children as functional as possible by the time they reach adulthood.
Mercy is partnering with The Arc of the Ozarks and Missouri State University on the project. MSU graduate students will learn how to diagnose autism and will be available to follow the children into their schools and serve as a behavioral resource for teachers.
