System Support Specialist

The System Support Specialist is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and the related infrastructure. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure while conforming to organizational budgets and needs. This position reports to the Director of Information Technology and is responsible for handling escalated Help Desk tickets, the setup of new user accounts and workstations, and providing Support to internal and cloud based systems. This position requires networking knowledge, coupled with excellent customer support skills and a great team attitude. The person accepting this position will be required to respond to help desk tickets in a timely manner, troubleshoot Microsoft Server and general networking issues, answer phone calls as they come in, and assist with short and long term departmental needs.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assist in support of Microsoft Server 2012 R2, SQL 2012, and the related server infrastructure (mostly all virtual, VMware)
  •  Core Windows networking knowledge and experience
  • Help with the setup new employee accounts and workstations
  • Handle Escalated End User Support Tickets
  • Maintain WSUS Server and updates to end points
  • Experience with Microsoft Office 365
  • Experience with VMware Virtualization Software
  • Experience Cisco and Cisco Meraki Switches and AP’s
  • Troubleshooting and support of Microsoft Remote App and Remote Desktop
  • Monitors Help Desk ticket requests to ensure timely and appropriate resolution, following up as appropriate.
  • Modify configurations, utilities, software default settings, etc. for the local workstation
  • Document internal procedures
  •  Occasional travel may be necessary during business hours
  •  Must be a licensed and insured driver
  •  Must be able to bend, push, pull office equipment on an intermittent basis
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
  • Must be able to clearly explain concepts and problems to employees in non-technical terms
  • Other tasks as assigned

Minimum Experience and Training Qualifications

  • Core Networking and Server fundamentals
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred or equivalent relevant work experience
  • Certifications preferred (MCSE, VCP, etc.)
  • Three+ years of experience in a comparable position
